Species located in Yellowstone Park


As you already know, Yellowstone Park is one of the biggest national parks in Wyoming and USA. Its surface is equal to 20 million acres, compared to 31,250 square miles. As a result, it makes this park a home to thousands or millions of species, from rabbits, squirrels, to bears and wolves. But there are also a lot of plants located in this park. It is estimated that there are 1,700 different kinds of plants including lichens, and other vascular plants.

Trees and plants

As mentioned before, this park has a variety of plants and trees, which makes it ideal to visit, especially in the spring season, when all of the trees blossom. There are 1,700 trees and plants, which are this park's native flora. But, there are also numerous exotic species, more precisely, there are 170 kinds of exotic species, which are not originated from this park. Lodgepole pine is the most present specie in this park, as it covers 80% of this park's area. But there are also other trees, such as douglas fir and whitebark pine which are found throughout the park. But, if you are a flower lover, this park is perfect as there are plenty of colorful flowers which bloom between May and September. In addition, there are plants who are found only in Yellowstone Park. Yellowstone Sand Verbena is one of these rare plants. There are around 8,000 flowers of this kind which bloom in this park only.

Scientists have concluded that Yellowstone's hot lakes, rivers and waters in general are a home to trillions of baceria form mats. These bacterias are not random, in fact, they are considered to be some of the most primitive lifeforms on earth! One of these strange and mysterious bacterias is Thermus aquaticus, which is a bacterium that produces enzymes. This bacteria is useful to scientists, as they use them in replicating DNA. But, there are also plenty of other kinds of bacterias, which are useful to scientists in treating diseases and finding cures.

Animals

Yellowstone Park is a home to various animals. There are found the smallest and harmless animals of the world, as well as there are found the world's most dangerous and biggest animals. But, as one of the most dangerous animals on this park are wolves. However, some people are adapted to their existence in this park, and they are not afraid to go hiking or exploring wilderness areas. There are also a lot of birds located in this park. Researchers found that there are 311 different species of birds, whose nests are located in this park's trees.

To sum up, animals on this park are very eye catching, but be cautious - not every animal is harmless!
