With almost three million visitors per year, Yellowstone National Park is the most visited National Park in America. It also became America's first ever National Park when the United States Congress embodied it as such in 1872. It was said by Congress to establish the park as being "for the preservation of" and "for the enjoyment of the people". Yellowstone is a very large park. It covers 2.2 million acres and contains over 370 miles of paved roadways. This national park sits in beautiful Wyoming's northwestern area and will be celebrating a 136th anniversary in 2008.
Yellowstone is considered to contain jaw-dropping natural beauty through its famous geysers. There are actually about 250 active geysers at Yellowstone National Park which makes it the best area in the world to see these in action. Yellowstone is home to thousands of natural thermal features, including the most popular, Old Faithful Geyser.
Not only is Yellowstone known for its geysers, but it also has an extremely beautiful spectacle known as Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. It has a gorgeous mountain-range with lots of wildlife, including elk, American bison, wolves, moose, and of course grizzly bears. The Greater Yellowstone Area is a name that was given to Yellowstone and the surrounding areas in recent years as it becomes recognized as a large biological unit.
